Changing Default Browser for Links in Outlook
To ensure that links in Outlook open with your preferred browser, follow the steps based on the version of Outlook you are using.
Classic Outlook Desktop App
- Open Outlook.
- Click on File in the top left corner.
- Select Options from the menu.
- Navigate to Advanced.
- Look for the section labeled File and browser preferences.
- In the dropdown menu for Open hyperlinks from Outlook in, select Default Browser.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- Restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.
New Outlook App
- The new Outlook app automatically uses your system's default browser for opening links. If links are opening in Microsoft Edge, ensure that your desired browser is set as the default in your Windows settings.
Additional Notes
- If you are using Microsoft 365, links may default to Microsoft Edge regardless of your system settings. In such cases, adjusting the settings in the classic app as described above will help.
- Changes made in the classic Outlook app will also affect how links open in Microsoft Teams, as they share the same browser settings.
By following these steps, you can ensure that Outlook respects your browser preference when opening links.
